We are already almost one month into the 2nd quarter, which means Music in Film has been well underway studying the affect music has in movies. So far, we've learned about different genres of films, paying close attention to the Horror genre (it lined up perfectly with Halloween, it was hard not to learn about this genre!) Now we are in the middle of our Silent Movie unit, learning a little bit of history about movies and the music used to bring them to life. As part of this unit, we have watched bits and pieces of classics like "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1920), "The General" (1926), and will watch clips from Charlie Chaplin classics, and wrap up the unit with Disney's Fantasia and Fantasia 2000.
Along with watching movies, students are learning how to describe music with a broader vocabulary and are using this vocabulary to contribute to discussions in class.
Up next in the wonderful world of Music in Film is the Musical genre!
