Kindergarten through 2nd grade have been working through the "Share the Music" series, exploring topics like keeping a steady beat, moving to music as well as pitch and tempo by way of singing songs and musical games.
3rd grade has begun exploring the instruments of the orchestra. So far, we have learned about the brass and the percussion instruments. Next up are the strings and the woodwinds. Also in the works for the 3rd grade are boomwhackers (plastic tubes that make different notes when you whack them). Throughout this next month, we will be working on reading music and rhythms so different songs can be played with the boomwhackers.
4th grade has also been learning to read music so they can play a different instrument...the recorder! Beginning early October, the 4th graders will make their way through Recorder Karate. In the meantime, they have been learning different music vocabulary and have been learning about different music styles and genres.
The 5th grade is making their way through music history, beginning with the Medieval and Renaissance period. Up next is the wonderful world of the Baroque period, listening to works by Bach and Handel while learning about the characteristics of music of that time.
